The Virtuoso

Since the piano is generally considered a stringed instrument
(though in some hands it might be classified in the percussion family),
I felt emboldened to include this hilarious series by the German master
artist and poet WILHELM BUSCH ( 1832-1908).

In fifteen scenes the virtuoso piano teacher demonstrates to his eager
and responsive student the many nuances of his art.

Extroverted string players, certainly cellists, may recognize themselves
in the extravagant gestures of these images.
